Christmas Update:

Merry Christmas from the other side of the world. We encountered Christmas earlier than the rest of you. One of the many benefits of being in Iraq, truly. We ushered in Christmas with a Company Christmas Party at 0200. It was good to be surrounded by our friends here. The phone center is abuzz with calls home. As you can see, we got a "few" packages from home. Believe it or not, this was a regular occurrence.

I wanted to update you all with what is going on here. We are almost half way through the deployment here to Fallujah. Our casualties have been hard to bear but we fight on. Charlie Co now stands with 5 KIA and many more wounded. A group of combat replacements showed up this week so that helps to keep our numbers up. Obviously we are not facing the same number of casualties as have been endured in many other wars, but the loss of good men is still very real. I encourage you to remember the families of the killed. Pray for them during this rough time; also pray for our wounded. I know of two blogs for the two Marines from our Company who had amputations due to IEDs. These guys are warriors and their blogs are very encouraging. We use them to keep up to date on how their healing is going.

Hello, Lt. Sackett. It is good to see you online. Please tell Sgt. Hollenbeck and all your Marines hello from home. We eagerly search the web for information on how things are going for the 3/24 augments in Charlie Company.

I know your two sons, wife, and family miss you so much, as we all miss our Marines. However, we know that you are all a "family" there and are looking out for one another.

Happy New Year and hurry home. Love and many, many prayers from all of us here. We are so very proud of you.

Connie Hollenbeck

Hi David,
You should post more often. :) I enjoy reading all of your posts, but I am probably a little biased since I'm your wife. I love you and miss you. I'm glad you had a good Christmas in Iraq with your brothers. You are ever in my heart and in my prayers.

David,

Brother...we miss you and look forward to hearing of your safe return home! You and your men are in our prayers constantly. Even my 16 month old prays for you every night. We pray for strength, protection, warmth, wisdom, and perseverance. We know that God has you and your men over there for a reason beyond the physical realm of this world we live in.
It has been 20 years since you and I met and quickly became best friends. Our military careers have had us on separate parts of the globe for the last 14 years. Even apart, there is nothing that can stop me from loving you as a dear brother in the Lord and friend forever. Stay strong my friend! God is on your side...

"A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."
Proverbs 18:24

Hi David,
I agree with your wife--post more often! You are a good writer, and have a great story to tell. Kurt and I continue to pray for your safety, your Co.'s safety, for Laura and the boys--that God will restore your family togetherness in his time, and hold you up in the in-between time.
with love,
Marianne Smith

Hey, David,
So glad to find your posts . . . Laura keeps us informed so well, but it's great to "hear" your words. We're in continual prayer for you and your troops . . . how can we ever thank you for your service? We love you and pray you'll be home soon to play with your kids and hug your wife! She's doing an amazing job here at home, as you already know! Keep the faith, brother!
In Him,
The Troxel family

Hi David,
I was just looking over your blog (and Laura's also) and wanted to let you know how proud we are of you both. We think of you both constantly and pray for your safety, strength, endurance and encouragement. We are trying our best to help Laura when we can and always wishing we could do more. Keep posting when you can. We enjoy reading these and especially look forward to hearing of your calls home to Laura.
We love you - "Dad"
