The Thread
Today my second son was born. A healthy boy. Why has God so blessed me? Who knows? I have learned so much since my eldest was born three and ½ years ago. I have graduated grad school, gotten commissioned by the Marine Corps, gone to Iraq, and then back to school once again to teach this time. And through it all I see a thread. This thread connects all that happens around me. I have found that things are often not what I expect and that it as rarely all about me. I guess that is part of being a parent. You exist for someone else. And it makes you just a little more patient and a little more humble because you become more aware of you own faults and shortcomings.

David, my son told me about your blog. He is a student of yours at ISU. He knows how I feel about our country and about the war in Iraq, and he thought I would like your article here. I Did! Congratulations to you, for being a true American and letting everyone know about you, your family and your feelings. I would like to Thank You for being a true patriot, for serving your country and putting your life on the line for the rest us here at home. I am extremely proud of you and the all other American service men and women serving our country. We need more young people like you teaching our children the proper respect for our America. All that I wanted to say to you is, "Thank You"! Thanks for protecting me, my family and all free Americans. John Lynn Livengood
